There is always much excitement as riders gear up for the event and this year is no different. There is definitely a rumble in the air! Please be safe out there always. For those of you who cannot, or don't plan to attend Sturgis, don’t fret. Have you seen all of the rallies scheduled for late summer and fall? There is an impressive lineup. One place to look for these is on cyclefish.com and click on Motorcycle Events. There seems to be a more positive vibe in the general motorcycle world this year, compared to last year. More interesting motorcycle news items and a more hopeful tone to events and even articles that are published! There are many events out there to get your badass biker fix. And for those who prefer a more family-friendly motorcycle event, you will find those listed, too. Fun for all!

Of course, for us, we love to see more riders (young and not-so-much) wearing our Original KD’s or XKD’s on their way to the Rally. Nothing is cooler than thundering down Main Street wearing a pair of KD’s with your favorite lens color. Pink lenses (new), light blue lenses, dark blue lenses, Chill Green Polarized (21269), light green, orange lenses are only a few of the 30+ lens options to choose from. Too many to mention. Find your favorite here: www.originalkds.com We have many other options for the rally, too. We have Airfoil Fit Over Goggles (that go over prescription glasses), padded Kickstart wraps, Chix Riding Glasses and many others. Don't worry: If you can't get your KD's before you leave for Sturgis, there will be vendors there selling KD's, including Arlin and Donna at 2 Wheelers!

Some people have reported feeling blah lately. I've said this in the past: Find your people who help you stay positive. Often, having fun takes a little planning. Even if a big rally isn’t your idea of a good time anymore, or maybe it just isn’t a possibility for you right now, you can still go to your favorite coffee or motorcycle shop. A change of scenery can do wonders. Even getting a chair and sitting in your yard can provide an attitude adjustment. Over the years, our contribution is that several people have commented on how wearing those light blue lens KD’s brightens the day.

We are just beginning 2026 and the prognosticators are active. How you view the outlook for the coming year depends on what news sources you access and what the focus is of those newscasts. Aim Expo in Anaheim this January 2026 showed us a busy, happy group of business leaders and professionals in the motorcycle industry with their hopeful heads held high (how’s that for an alliteration?). Truly, this business to business expo had a different, more upbeat energy than the industry has shown in recent years. And that bodes well for all of us. Even the numbers people who presented at the show, showed a stable year, with a trend upward in 2027 and beyond. This means more industry growth, motorcycles, ATV vehicles, helmets, gear, motorcycle sunglasses, motorcycle goggles and accessories. Fun!

So, what does that mean to us? Original KD’s and XKD’s are once again, growing in popularity. Although they have always been popular as biker sunglasses, the variety of lens colors are bring in even more fans from sunglass lovers, in general, as well as the music industry. All are welcome, of course! After all, bikers made them famous, but EVERYONE loves the Original KD’s.

None of us knows what the year will bring, but having a “Make It Happen” attitude will definitely tilt the year in our favor. What will you make happen for your family and friends this year? The good news is that mental health professionals tell us that a positive attitude and phrasing things in a supportive way makes a big difference to the outcome of goals, relationships and the enjoyment of most activities. Apparently, these same professionals say that our brains become really good at whatever it is we practice. In other words, repeatedly say negative things, then that is what becomes your norm. Flip the switch and say positive, hopeful things often, then that becomes the habit. When life throws you too many difficulties, sometimes this is hard to do. When that happens, grab a pair of your favorite KD’s and ride. (Some bikers and other KD sunglass fans tell me that the light blue lens lifts their mood!)

Motorcycle sunglasses can make a big difference to the enjoyment and safety of the ride. This one is for the riders who will not ride without polarized lenses: Chill Green KD’s and XKD’s with a Polarized Green Lens. You can tell by the phone that these colors are subtle and sophisticated. That’s right, biker sunglasses can be classy and KD’s have something for everyone, from Orange Metallic Thunder KD’s to this beautiful Chill Green Polarized KD and everything in between! Riders were waiting for polarized sunglasses like this because both the Original KD 21269 and the XKD 11269 are flying out of the warehouse!

So, why are they so popular? The answer varies, depending on who you talk with. As I have said in the past, some riders, especially those who often ride near the ocean, lakes and rivers, insist on polarized lenses to help combat the harsh horizontal glare off water. This biker glass brings you the features that many riders demand. Yes, this KD has the desired features of all KD’s: Skinny arms that fit comfortably under a helmet, great peripheral vision, and a secure fit that keeps them on the face. However, it is the hint of green in the frame and the crisp, gray-green polarized lenses that riders talk about most often. It is not only the fact that this lens offers enhanced glare protection, but that combined with the fact that a green lens has little color distortion. From the brisk sales, we know bikers love these glasses and the word is out!

Look for them at your favorite motorcycle dealer. We really do support our dealers, but if you can’t find them at the motorcycle shop, you can always find them here: https://www.pacificcoastsunglasses.com/chill-green-kd-s-21269-green-clear-frame-green-polarized

In many parts of the USA, including the central California coast, we have experienced lots of wet, coldish weather this spring. Although the weather is improving in most states, some continue to see rain (or even significant storms and tornadoes!) However, bikers are great at finding good rides and riding weather. They sneak out when it is sunny or head to the desert for sunshine. Speaking of the desert, did you see the weather report for Palm Springs in southern California? It is already climbing up over 100 degrees! In general, bikers are resourceful people, especially when it comes to finding a place to ride. Of course, from our perspective, make sure you are sunglass-ready or goggle-ready for any type of weather.

What does spring mean for motorcycle sunglasses? In general, riders need to be ready for anything. You all have your favorite features in biker eyewear, however; don’t hold back when it comes to trying something different, especially when it comes to lens colors.

KEEP IT COOL

It’s August and everyone is screaming about the heat in many parts of the USA. Hot weather is serious business. As much as we have dreamed about these summer days, we weren’t asking for this extreme heat that we are feeling in the USA and other parts of the world! Normally, we would be telling you to stay super cool, like, as in, wear your favorite pair of KD’s or XKD’s. But before we do that, let’s remember a few of the basics for that hot summer ride.

1. Ride in the cooler part of the day. Really. Don’t underestimate the power of the sun and heat. That may sound obvious; however, many people start out on a ride thinking, “I can handle it” or “I’m not going that far” and then things change quickly. You certainly don’t want to start feeling woozy on a motorcycle. The last thing you need is to have to pull over on the side of the road in the blistering heat because you feel sick. Preventing this situation is the priority, so think about the time of day you leave the house.

2. Dress for the slide, not for the ride. Always. In other words, don’t be tempted to wear shorts and a tank top to stay cool when riding. There are many options for cool riding gear. There are even cooling vests that have pockets that go in the freezer, so they are ready for the ride. Pants are available for men and women riders that can help keep you cool as well as protect you. Ask your favorite motorcycle dealer! If price is a factor, remember to check out thrift shops, too. You’d be surprised at the good quality, gently used clothing that can end up in the thrift stores, especially in larger cities. It is possible that you will find just the right item for you.

3. Plan your stops. This one is important if you have to make that longer ride during the day. Anticipate. Think about your route. Where can you re-hydrate with food and water, especially water. Is there a convenient store, or maybe, a friend or family member’s house where you can rest along the way? You probably know to take water along for the ride but stop to replenish your supply. Sometimes the difficult part of this whole thing is remembering to do this in advance, when you are not yet thirsty. On piping hot days, this becomes even more important.

4. Some drinks don’t count as hydration. You already know: As good as that ice cold beer or coffee mocha freeze sounds, they can actually cause more dehydration. I’m just thinking this through with y’all and repeating what all those health experts tell us. I think the key here is to make sure you drink lots of water to help balance your other favorite beverages.

5. Use good judgment. You know what I mean. Don’t let your enthusiasm and the joy of the ride take over your decision-making skills. No one wants to end up on the 6:00 p.m. evening news as a cautionary tale.

OK, now that’s over let’s talk about those super cool KD’s for a moment. Those of you who are KD sunglass fans love them for many reasons. They protect your eyes while remaining secure on the face, the skinny arms fit comfortably under a helmet, and the lens choices are many. Another reason to add at this time of year is they have no padding that can make you sweat. Even those who prefer padded sunglasses know what I’m talking about: In hot weather, the padding can make you feel sweaty and make the sunglasses feel a little sticky.

So, if you haven’t tried the #1 Selling Biker Sunglass in the World, maybe now’s the time. Be safe, be seen and enjoy the ride.

Motorcycle sunglasses are everywhere. This is especially true of the Original KD’s. Why? Because sunglasses are an important part of safety when riding. You can walk into most motorcycle shops and find riding glasses. We are very pleased, and not surprised, to find that KD motorcycle sunglasses continue to be very popular. If fact, our XKD’s (20% Bigger) are rapidly becoming a best seller, too. Those who ride and wear them know why both KD’s and XKD’s are so popular. They have the features, style and price that work incredibly well when riding.

Original KD’s are the #1 Selling Biker Sunglass in the World for many reasons. Their slender arms fit comfortably under a helmet. They have a secure fit so they stay on your head while riding. The polycarbonate lenses are available in over 30 colors and/or frame styles. In addition, they look biker cool and are very affordable. Many bikers haven’t worn any other sunglass for decades. And the selection keeps growing. Our XKD customers tell us how happy they are because they need sunglasses for big heads and XKD sunglasses are perfect for them. It wasn’t until about 10 years ago that we introduced XKD’s. Well, they keep asking for more colors! In fact, last year we had several calls from dealers and their customers asking for XKD’s with light green lenses and dark brown (my favorite) lenses. So, introducing and new for 2023 our XKD 1016 https://www.pacificcoastsunglasses.com/x-kd-s-1016-light-green and our XKD 1121 https://www.pacificcoastsunglasses.com/x-kd-s-1121-dark-brown-lens

They keep asking for more and we keep giving it to them! We are seriously touched by the dedication and very personal ways bikers continue to be fans of KD’s and XKD’s. Just yesterday, I heard of another biker who passed away and requested to be buried in is KD’s. How much more grateful can we be for the passion of the riders who wear KD’s? Be safe, be seen and enjoy the ride.

Safety First; But Shamelessly Interested in Style, Too

When riding your motorcycle, going to the rally or going to a gathering in the backyard or the beach, you will be wearing sunglasses. Previous blogs have addressed sunglass safety features and goggle features. But what about fashion? Some are concerned about admitting that they are interested style in general; in fact, some people outright say, "I do not care about fashion or what I wear." Is that accurate? No matter what clothing or biker gear that we choose, we are making a statement about ourselves. That statement may be some like, "I am a no-nonsense, simple in style type of person" or you might one on the opposite end of the spectrum with gear that says, "The shinier the better. I dress to impress." Most of us fall in between these extremes but definitely show our own style. Sunglasses are no exception to this spectrum. Some what a simple wire frame with a traditional smoke lens and others choose a shiny chrome frame with a mirror lens that you see coming from three blocks away. Either way, it's your style and that's what matters!

Spring gets very busy in the sunglass industry. Although people shop for sunglasses year-around, they shop more often in spring and summer because they are out riding their motorcycles more often in the beautiful weather, attending motorcycle rallies, having backyard barbecues with friends and family, going to enjoy a day at the beach and simply find a destination for a motorcycle ride. And hey, let's face it: We all want to look good!

So, safety of sunglasses and goggles are a given. Let's talk more about fashion. The swings in style come and go. Sunglasses can trend toward very small sunglasses and then two years later trend toward very big sunglasses. This is especially true for women's sunglass styles. Even motorcycle sunglasses and goggles are influenced by the trend-setting high fashion influencers as to what attributes are going to be in style. We all respond to this to some extent; it is normal, after ensuring safety and function, to be interested in what's new. I mention the high fashion trend-setters because certainly the general fashion markets are influence by them. Even the movies and other forms of entertainment influence styles because if an actor is wearing some very cool sunglass, many people are inspired to try it. And even if they're not directly inspired to wear a certain glass, those who decide what glasses will be sold or manufactured that year are influenced by this (think Tom Cruise in Top Gun wearing RayBan© Aviators) Along with the many other fashion staples that Audrey Hepburn gave us from her role in Breakfast at Tiffany's were the truly iconic large cat-eyed sunglasses. Charm, grace, and eye protection rolled into one. (May we'd look a little like her if we wore them?)

There are many ways to make sunglasses reflect your own style, frame size being one of them. Do you like a big sunglass or a smaller one that sits close to the face with a snug fit? Although the size does make a statement, one way or another, color speaks to your personality, too. By far, most men and women buy black sunglasses. After that, they buy tortoise frames. But those men and women who don't want the traditional look, gravitate toward colored frames and lenses. Here men and women can get as daring as they like. Although the vast majority of our Original KD's sunglasses are black frames, we do include other options including tortoise frames, matte black, metallic blue, metallic red and the new translucent Chill KD's. We are often surprised by the fact that both men and women stray outside the lines and choose these special frames. The good news is, KD’s and XKD’s (20% Bigger) look good on almost everyone. We also have some glasses and goggles with shiny chrome frames and mirror lenses which make a very bold statement. They really are fun!

Although clearly people can and do wear whatever style they want, many turn to the recommendation of eyewear experts who make suggestions on the shape of the face and what shape sunglasses should be worn. This is helpful and really can make a difference to the look and fit. Square shape faces can pull off a rounder sunglass; small faces should and intuitively do avoid anything too large. Overall rectangular sunglasses probably are the most versatile for various face shapes. You will find other sites that go into much greater detail with the nuances of the right sunglass for the wide range of face shapes.

Whatever you choose, just rock it. Make it your own. From the more subtle, quieter look to the "see me before you hear me look", there is no right or wrong. And with the selection of sunglasses available today, you will find something that suits your budget. Have fun with this accessory, whether it is a series riding sunglass or simply a cool pair of shades to wear at the next outdoor summer party when you are a happy creature dancing on the lawn.

Motorcycle Gifts for the Biker in Your Life

and FREE SHIPPING! Just in time for the Holidays

Motorcycle sunglasses and other motorcycle accessories make wonderful gifts for the biker in your life. It is important to know what kind of motorcycle, in general, the gift recipient rides. What a Harley rider relates to verses what the Honda Kawasaki or BMW Motorcycle rider wants can be very different. Of course, even within the Harley-Davidson Community, you don’t want to make sweeping generalizations about what that v-twin rider wants! So, if you’re not sure, ask those people closest to him or her for hints (or do a little discreet surveillance of your own!)

Of course, motorcycle accessories such as leathers, boots, and even motorcycle gloves can be very expensive, but making your favorite biker smile doesn’t have to be. You can make him or her happy with a very cool pair of sunglasses or goggles without spending a month’s rent. Yes, the Original KD’s are a cool, thoughtful and practical accessory to give your favorite biker! I will highlight some of the important points in this post, not only of KD’s but several other favorite products.

So a few important facts about the Original KD sunglasses: KD’s have been around for decades. They are a tried and true accessory of the v-twin motorcycle world. This tough little biker sunglass keeps away the sun, wind and debris. We have introduced so many options over the years that it is easy to find your favorite (or that of the person you are buying them for). The following are some of the options:

Original KD’s – KD’s are a small biker sunglass. That’s the cool look; that’s the secure fit. (Yes, Jax Teller of SONS OF ANARCHY fame wore KD Sunglasses!) Several years back, we decided to make another size option. Riders would sometimes say to us, “I love KD’s but I have a big head. Don’t you have them a little bigger?” Now we do! We introduced XKD’s. XKD’s are 20% bigger than the Original KD’s. They are the same cool biker sunglass just a little bigger. Most lens options are now available in XKD’s. Polarized lenses in both KD’s and XKD’s continue to be the favorite. Take a look for yourself https://www.pacificcoastsunglasses.com/the-original-kds.aspx

Frame Options for KD’s and XKD’s – Some people have a very clear preference for some of the finer details. In fact, most of us do! So, we responded to requests and created MATTE (SATIN) frames for many best-selling lens colors. Many people still prefer the traditional shiny frame, but we are surprised by the HUGE response to MATTE frames, or as we like to call them: Biker Fine, Without the Shine.

Airfoil Fit Over Goggles – Airfoil Fit Over Goggles are the fit over that everyone wants. This goggle has been the chosen one for many years due to its protection, comfort, and look. OK, the look is as cool as it can be, considering it’s a fit over! The protection it provides for the prescription glass wearer is unmatched. It’s low profile against the face allows it to be as minimal as possible yet the design accommodates most prescription glasses. Better yet, Airfoils are available with a 9300 smoke/mirror lens, 9305 clear lens, 9312 yellow lens and even a 9311 Day2Nite photochromic (light changing) lens. Check them out in our goggle section of our website here: https://www.pacificcoastsunglasses.com/airfoil-goggles.aspx

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally just got a little cooler. Need eye protection? Motorcycle sunglasses must be protective, but they don’t have to be boring. Thunder KD’s and XKD’s are making their debut at Pacific Coast Sunglasses this month and already your favorite dealers are gearing up for you. Don’t worry: Even if you can’t buy them before you leave, you’ll see these piping hot new KD’s along the way or at the rally. If you don’t see them, ask your favorite gear shop, “Hey, do you have Thunder KD’s?”

The Original KD’s have been around for a long, long, time. Ask any Harley rider or motorcycle rider in general. Why are they so popular? As we’ve said before: Our motorcycle riding customers tell us, KD arms are skinny, so they fit very comfortably under a helmet, they sit close to the face so they don’t fly-off and they are super affordable. In fact, many customers say that KD’s and XKD’s (20% Bigger) are the last great value in motorcycle eyewear. In addition, NOTHING SCREAMS BIKER LIKE THE ORIGINAL KD’S (Just ask Jax Teller of Sons of Anarchy!) You will find KD’s at several of our trusted vendors in Sturgis. If you need a pair for the journey to the rally, check out your favorite motorcycle dealer or service shop. You can also find them online if you can’t make it to the store.

So find your favorite KD sunglass or try the brand new Thunder KD and make your way to the biggest motorcycle rally of the year. People are ready, willing and able to go to South Dakota and celebrate. Celebrate what? Anything and everything! Good health, family, friends, the diminishing effects of Covid on our world. Besides all of this, bikers like to gather and share the love of riding. Whatever you do this summer, be safe, be seen and enjoy the ride!

Motorcycle Sunglasses in Winter?

Do we really need sunglasses in winter? The answer is yes. Sunglasses are equally as important in winter as they are in the middle of summer if you are engaging in outdoor activities (especially if you are in area where there is increase exposure to ultraviolet light).

Some eye specialists say that sunglasses may be even more important in winter if you are outdoors for long periods of time on cloud-covered days. It is possible that people don't notice the sun as much on days like this and will stay outdoors for longer periods of time so extended exposure to the sun's ray's can be prolonged. Many of us have been surprised by sunburned shoulders and face during an outdoor event saying things like, "I just didn't notice I was getting burned!" or "It was overcast and cloudy so I didn't think about sun block." So remember, the same suns' rays that burn your skin are exposing your unprotected eyes to UV rays!

Eye care professionals, in general, say that people should wear sunglasses in winter, summer, spring and fall. The sun continues to emit ultra violet (UV) rays when it is cloudy and cold. Sometimes an overcast or cloudy day fools us into thinking that the damaging rays are not harming us. It is safe to assume that if you are working or playing outdoors, UV rays are shining on you and effecting you. One may not need as dark a lens for comfort; but remember whether the lens is clear, yellow, dark gray or any other color, it is the UV protection in the lens that protects your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun. This may seem really obvious to many; but others still have questions about it. It is easy to remember when it is blistering hot outside, not so easy when it is a gray day. Of course, winter in California, Arizona and Florida looks very different than winter in Minnesota. Those living or riding in those states fight the bright sunlight and glare off the water year around. In fact, right now as I post this blog, our dealers in Florida are stocking up on sunglasses and goggles for Daytona Bike Week which is coming up quickly (February 28 - March 9, 2025)!

In summary, like with most things, common sense prevails. Just don't be fooled in the winter when it's cloudy. We all still need to wear sunglasses!
